will Program Application

There are two periods for applying to will: over the summer and once you arrive on campus in the fall. Applying over the summer provides the advantage of an expedited “early admission” process. Summer applications are due by August 1; decisions will be made before the start of classes. Fall applications are due by Oct. 1; these applicants will be notified in mid-October.

All accepted applicants are required to attend an on-campus retreat (free of charge) to orient you to will and to build community. The Fall 2025 retreat will take place on Saturday, October 25, from 11 AM to 3 PM.

Application Essay

All applicants should respond to the first prompt and choose one of the two remaining questions to answer. Each essay should be no longer than 650 words.

Prompt 1: Students in the will program are offered opportunities to study the social, cultural, and political impact of gender and sexuality in their own lives and on a broader level by completing a will-specific minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Why does this academic area appeal to you? What do you hope to get out of the in-class elements of will?

Prompt 2: Please identify and describe an issue related to gender, race, class, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, disability, and/or any other dimension of identity. Why is this issue important to you?

Prompt 3: Think of a time that you found yourself facing a problem. How did you solve that problem? What did that experience teach you about community and leadership?
